John and Phoebe's Wayfarers Chapel Wedding

If you've never seen the Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, it's a stunning piece of architecture, melding extreme geometry organically into the surroundings -- the work of Lloyd Wright, son of Frank Lloyd Wright. It was such a joy to shoot a wedding there. Even more joy was photographing a marvelous couple and all the events of the day before and after the ceremony.

John and Phoebe wanted a very photojournalistic approach to their wedding photography, so I held back on my normal editorial portraits to spend more time documenting the spirit of the day. I witnessed Chinese tests of fortitude John had to pass in order to see his bride that included a high-heel relay and Back Street Boys performance. The day contained a choreography practice for an intense grand entry, some delightful games for the couple during the reception, and ultimately a lot of love between this marvelous couple and all their family and friends.
